Change is inevitable and social media platforms are no exception in order to accommodate their users' ever-changing demands. This also applies to one of the most widely used social networking platforms, Instagram.

According to a tweet by Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri in 2022, friends post “a lot more to Stories and send a lot more DMs than they post to feed.” This means that Instagram users have been posting less to their feed average user has turned to other ways to connect with the people they follow.

For users to post more to their feeds too, Instagram recently launched a new tool that lets users share their feed posts with a small group of people, dubbed Close Friends, to improve user privacy and control over their material.

Through this new feature, users may now share more intimate and direct content with a smaller number of individuals by selecting to share feed posts with only their close friends.

If you don't want everyone to view your silly but cute selfies, fit checks, or other snaps, but still want to share some to your closest group of followers, now you can do so. Here's how you can do it.

  • From your feed, tap the "plus" icon.
  • Choose the photo or video you want to post. You may opt to add a filter, adjust the framing, or edit the brightness, contrast, or structure of your photo. Click next.

  • On the page where you can your caption or tag people, etc., you will see an Audience tab where you can choose who you would like to share your post with. You can either share it with Everyone (or the public) or with Close Friends. Remember, people will not be notified when you add them to your "Close Friends" list. Currently, there's no known limit to how many people you can add to your list.
  • Likewise, when you post content with the "Close Friends" option, you will not be able to automatically share it to Facebook.
