A live-action TV adaptation of PlayStation’s God of War is reportedly in development at Amazon Prime Video.

As reported by Deadline, sources said that the streaming platform is in negotiations to adapt the mythology-themed action-adventure game from Santa Monica Studio.

Other details about the project are still unknown as of this writing, including the show’s cast members and release date.

However, the report furthered that the series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators-executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer-showrunner Rafe Judkins. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are also involved in the project.

Representatives from Sony and Amazon Studios had no comment, Deadline said.

To date, Santa Monica Studio has released a total of seven games in the franchise starting with God of War, which made its debut on PlayStation 2 in 2005.

In 2018, the studio released the seventh entry in the game franchise on PlayStation 4. The latest installment, which is based on ancient mythology, sees the journey of the titular demigod hero Kratos in the Greek world as he seeks revenge against the Olympian gods who tricked him into killing his own family.

Now living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, the game follows the demigod as he tries to adapt to unfamiliar lands and unexpected threats, while taking a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

Meanwhile, the sequel to the 2018 installment is also underway for Sony’s PlayStation. This time around, the new game, God of War Ragnarök, centers on Kratos and Atreus’ journey in the Nine Realms in search of answers as they prepare for the prophesied battle that will end the world.

Along the way, father and son will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, gather allies from across the realms and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters.

But as the threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer, Kratos and Atreus find themselves choosing between the safety of their family and the safety of the realms.

God of War Ragnarök is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 later this year.

Aside from God of War, Amazon Studios is also working on other TV adaptations based on popular video game franchises such as Fallout, which will feature Walton Goggins in the titular role.

Additionally, Deadline also reported last year that Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a TV series based on BioWare and Electronic Arts’ best-selling sci-fi video game franchise,  Mass Effect.

Apart from Amazon Prime, other streaming platforms are also working on their TV adaptations of popular video game franchises, such as HBO's The Last of Us, Paramount Plus' Halo, Peacock's Twisted Metal, and Netflix's Resident Evil.
