‘Horizon Forbidden West’ releases new story trailer and announces all-star voice cast
Horizon Forbidden West, the highly anticipated sequel to PlayStation’s Horizon Zero Dawn, is set to finally arrive on Feb. 18, 2022.
The post-apocalyptic open-world adventure was initially slated to come out during the 2021 holiday season, but faced delays due to the global pandemic which "hugely impacted" those working on the project.
To celebrate the sequel, PlayStation has released a new story trailer ahead of the game’s release next month. In the new story trailer, we get a better idea of the threats Aloy (voiced by Ashly Burch) will face going into the west.
Horizon Forbidden West continues six months after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy, a machine hunter, has travelled west to investigate a mysterious and deadly blight.
In these uncharted lands, Aloy will meet strange new tribes and encounter ever more deadly machines. Together with old friends and new companions, she must brave this dangerous frontier to find the answers she needs to save life on Earth.
In Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy will get to explore stunning new locales while searching for the secrets of the new plague and the means to destroy it.
Along with the new story trailer, PlayStation has also revealed intriguing new characters for the sequel, voiced by The Matrix’s Carrie Ann Moss and Black Panther’s Angela Bassett.
CBR.com reports that Bassett will be playing a newcomer called Regalla, one of Aloy's antagonists in Forbidden West, described as "driven by this hatred for the Carja tribe."
Meanwhile, Moss will play Tilda, "a mysterious new character with a special connection to the ancient past." Tilda is said to be linked in some way to the supercomputer GAIA who had a direct hand in the destruction (and restoration) of civilization in Guerrilla's original 2017 game.
John Macmillan and John Hopkins are reprising their roles from the previous game.
Macmillan plays Varl, a soldier from the same tribe as Aloy, while Hopkins voices Erend, a guardsman from the Oseram tribe. Both are friends who accompany Aloy on her journey along with new allies like Zo, Alva, and Kotallo.
A special behind the scenes "Meet the Cast" video feature also shows The Wire's Lance Reddick returning as Sylens, a familiar character from the original game, who originally aided Aloy in her journey. The cryptic archaelogist has reappeared in the west and seems to be working for the Regalla, a tribe dedicated to war and conquest, giving them the means to command and control the machines.
Horizon Forbidden West is set to arrive on Feb. 18, 2022 for both PS4 and PS5.
