ICYMI: The latest episode of 'The Boys' has a Filipino reference
The latest episode of superhero series The Boys caught the attention of Filipinos over a scene that references the Philippines.
The fourth season of the satirical show recently released its seventh episode on July 11. Titled The Insider, the episode centers on the CIA black ops team The Boys as they discover a plan to assassinate US president-elect Robert Singer that will be carried out by Shapeshifter Supe.
Elsewhere, the episode also explores the past of one of the vigilante team's members, Kimiko Miyashiro, on her experience working for the Shining Light Liberation Army, a terrorist organization based in the Philippines.
The scene then transitions to Kimiko's first night at the camp, where the organization's apparent leader could be heard speaking in Tagalog, "Kapag sumugod tayo sa kalaban, gagalaw tayo na parang multo. Tahimik. Ganun din ikaw. Talo. Handa ka na?"
A younger Kimiko is then forced to partake in a death match with a fellow member to be allowed to speak, but after her victory, she became traumatized to utter a single word.
Since the episode's release, many of The Boys' Filipino viewers took to social media to express their delight and excitement at having the Philippines be referenced in the popular series.

This isn't the first time that show made mention of the Philippines. Back in the first season, the group's leader, William "Billy" Butcher, could be heard greeting a security guard "Kamusta?"
Another character, Earving, was shown interrogating a woman in Tagalog, "Nakita mo pa siya noon pa?"

The Boys is set in a world where superpowered individuals, referred to as "Supes," work for a powerful corporation called Vought International and are regarded highly by the public despite most being secretly corrupt and self-serving. Because of this, CIA-sponsored black ops agents have decided to form the titular group and rise up against them.
The series premiered in 2019 and stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, and more.
