Need to kick your ex out of your account? Netflix launches 'Profile Transfer' to easily move one's watching data
Feelings fade, binge-watching is forever.
Netflix has launched an all-new feature for those that want to move Netflix profiles without the hassle of starting anew. Not that there's anything wrong with starting fresh.
"Profile Transfer" takes one's recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other data from a shared account — and easily moves it to their own membership plan.
The new add-on is ideal for those that are moving houses, ending a certain relationship, or simply wanting their own independent account.
The feature can be turned on or off by the owner of the Netflix account. From there, they can inform the concerned member that they can now remove themselves from the profile.
The option will first be shown in the drop-down menu of the Netflix home page once available.
From there, Netflix will help set up a new membership for the leaving member. They can either set up a brand-new account with their email address and new billing details or return to a pre-existing one.
The owner of the account they left behind will be notified once the process is complete.
"No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off," the streaming platform shared in a press release.
The move is just one of the changes that the company is implementing amid its crackdown on prohibited password sharing among users who don't belong in the same household.
The platform will also be introducing an ad-supported subscription service this November after a reported loss of 970,000 subscribers in the second quarter of 2022.
