'The Devil Wears Prada' sequel in the works
Bring out your cerulean tops and gird your loins, everyone! The hit comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada is finally getting a sequel over a decade later.
According to a report by Puck carried by The Hollywood Reporter, the continuation movie will have original writer Aline Brosh McKenna penning the script. Disney is said to be the studio developing the film after they acquired Fox 2000 Pictures, although they have not commented on the news yet.
While no details have been finalized, the news outlet offered insights into a possible plot where the "devil" herself Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) has her career as the editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway put at risk due to the decline of traditional magazine publishing.
She then comes into conflict with her former senior assistant, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who has now become a major executive at a luxury group, whose advertising dollars Miranda desperately needs.
No deals have been set in stone on Streep and Blunt's return for the sequel. The same goes for Anne Hathaway, who led the cast of the original film as one of Miranda's stressed assistants.
Released in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, and was rumored to be inspired by her time working with fashion magazine Vogue and its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
It follows a recent college journalism graduate named Andy as she is hired as an assistant to Miranda, a job that "a million girls would kill for." While she initially struggles with her boss's impossible demands, she soon finds herself sucked into the world of high fashion and the "Runway" philosophy.
Streep, Blunt, and Hathaway recently had a mini-reunion at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February earlier this year, where they referenced some memorable lines from the film as they presented the nominees.
The Devil Wears Prada amassed $327 million (P19.1 billion) at the worldwide box office and instantly became a cult favorite of generations of fashionistas.
