The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln to star as Scrooge in ‘A Christmas Carol’

He's taken on hordes of zombies (a.k.a walkers), so the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future shouldn't be a problem.

Andrew Lincoln, best known for his portrayal as Rick Grimes in the AMC post-apocalyptic horror series The Walking Dead is set to star in a theatre production of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale A Christmas Carol.

Matthew Warchus (Ghost The Musical, Matilda The Musical) is set to direct this version, with a script adapted by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).

The production will be performed live onstage at The Old Vic Theatre in London, and will be live-streamed to audiences worldwide.

According to The Old Vic Theatre's website, the production is part of the ‘Old Vic: In Camera’ series, a new artistic initiative of socially distanced performances all streamed live from the iconic stage with the empty auditorium as a backdrop.

"We hope that you will join with us to support the series and feel excited to be part of a live theatre community once again. We need your help in making sure that The Old Vic and our productions are still here to enjoy once our much-missed normal lives resume."

An all-star theatrical cast joins Lincoln in the production, including: Melissa Allan, Rosanna Bates, John Dagleish, Tim van Eyken, Sam Lathwood and Eugene McCoy.

Though Lincoln has starred in Christmas classics onscreen, notably Love Actually (2003), his longest role has been that of sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes, which he played for 10 years. Lincoln departed from the long-running AMC Series The Walking Dead in 2018 ahead of the upcoming series finale, but is set to reprise his role in upcoming film and TV spin-off projects including Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

In the meantime, theatre fans may want to catch his performance in the classic holiday production from the safety of their homes.

A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic Theatre will run from Dec. 12 to Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.
