From 'Alam mo yan Marina' to Tampalpuke: The most iconic moments from 'Drag Race Philippines'

Published Oct 06, 2022 6:39 pm

Fans of RuPaul's Drag Race know that the reality competition always has its share of iconic moments—from season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio's "Not today Satan" line to the face crack of the century ft. Alyssa Edwards in All Stars 2. And Drag Race Philippines does not fall short in serving up these unforgettable scenes.

The Filipino iteration of the reality show didn't just introduce the world to local drag, it also showed how talented our local queens are. So far, the show has nine episodes with the much-anticipated finale, where they'll finally crown the first Pinoy drag superstar, coming on Oct. 12.

The queens have definitely made their mark and fans have some of their one-liners and catchphrases devoted to memory. From Eva Le Queen's tampalpuke line to weird editing choices, here are some of the most iconic moments from Drag Race Philippines so far.

The SHOOOEEEES

In the first episode of DRPH, Prince was read to filth for the shoes she wore on the runway.

"For this runway look, I love how you styled it. It's just the details like the shoes," guest judge BJ Pascual began. Then, host Paolo Ballesteros continued to amplify his distaste for the footwear saying, "The shoooooeees."

Since the episode, Prince has made a brand out of the meme, with shirts, tote bags, and fans printed with the iconic line.

Where's the flowers?

In the next episode, the queens were challenged to create their own sagala looks using flowers. One of the competitors that struggled, Corazon, was judged for the lack of flowers in her outfit.

"Where's the flowers?" Paolo asked, with Corazon turning to show the flowers on the chicken fence train she constructed.

"Ah, okay," the host continued. Fans loved how cheeky and shady Paolo's response to this was.

Pop Off Ate (Flexbombs' Version)

Every season, the girls get to write their own verse to a song and perform it in front of the judges. The queens were split into two groups—Pink Pussy Energy (PPE) and Flexbomb—and while both teams did well, the Flexbomb girls embodied the Pinoy girl group's energy perfectly. And ask any fan to sing the verse, they'll probably know every single word to the song.

Gigi Era's tiyanak

The queens got in their spookiest glam for the runway themed Shake, Rattle, and Rampa. While other queens mixed glamour and horror in their outfits, Gigi Era took it more literally and dressed up as a horrifying tiyanak. The judges critiqued her for the scary look as it wasn't as elevated as other competitor's outfits, so Gigi justified her choice.

"When I think of tiyanak, I think of tiyanak, not holding a tiyanak" she said, gesturing to her bloody baby bib and diapers."

The profound statement was met with judges Rajo Laurel, Nadine Lustre, and Jiggly Caliente breaking into laughter.

Iconic Snatch Game performances

DRPH's Snatch Game was one for the books. It featured stellar impersonations from Marina Summers as Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Eva Le Queen as Rufa Mae Quinto, and Xilhouete as Vicki Belo.

Marina's GMA was funny—she had the former president's voice and mannerisms down, and she even had the neck brace GMA wore. The references to the Gello Garci scandal and ChaCha (Charter Change) were the icing on top of the cake and hearing Gloria say she's the "baddest b*tch in the game"? Iconic.

Eva also stole the spotlight as Rufa Mae Quinto when she blurted a word that tickled the viewers' funny bone: tampalpuke.

The question asked was, "Para i-represent ang mga Pilipino, Bruno Mars rewrote his hit song '[Blank] on the Floor.'"

"Ang sagot ko—favorite ko kasi ito—tampalpuke," Eva said and she even educated people about what the word means.

"Itong tampalpuke—huy, totoong isda ito. Totoong isda ito sa Cavite, shoutout sa mga Caviteño. Ano ito, flounder fish. Ito 'yung best friend ni Ariel."

Xilhouete's speeches and "Alam mo 'yan Marina"

Throughout the season, Xilhouete had her fair share of speeches. Whenever she won a challenge, she'd have a thousand words of thanks to the judges—at one point, Mama Pao even told her, "Thank you Xilhouete, sobrang dami mo na rin nasabi."

In the third episode of Untucked, a behind-the-scenes post-show companion to DRPH, Xilhouete broke down after a photo of her and her grandmother was flashed in the werk room. One of her most iconic lines came out of the breakdown speech, "Alam mo 'yan Marina."

Xilhouete has proven herself as a worthy competitor, starting at the bottom during the first few episodes and pulling herself up, winning two challenges.

The drag queen was also known for her feud with drag daughter Marina, which started outside the show. But in the ninth episode, the two buried the hatchet.

The gravity inside the popcorn

Phased that she was going to be at the bottom again for the third straight week (and possibly drunk), Viñas DeLuxe threw shade at Marina Summers in Untucked.

She started stirring up drama between Brigiding and Marina, asking "Okay lang ba magtanong?" Marina then responded, "Bakit nag-uusap kami tapos bigla kang..."

"Because of the gravity inside the popcorn," Viñas responded.

Kuya Precious

For the makeover challenge, the queens had to put their family members in drag. As Mama RuPaul says, a family that drags together, slays together! Precious Paula Nicole had the most precious (pun intended) task to put her tall and gentle little brother in drag.

As Precious put on makeup on her brother, she got teary when he saw the resemblance with their late mother. On the main stage, the drag queen was the sweetest kuya, coaching her brother through the whole walk.

The Guest Judges

Big-named celebrities graced the Drag Race Philippines stage as guest judges, including the likes of BJ Pascual, Rajo Laurel, Jon Santos, Pops Fernandez, Pokwang, Nadine Lustre, Regine Velasquez, Pia Wurtzbach, PatrickStarrr, and Boy Abunda.

Designer Laurel drew ire from netizens after he fiercely critiqued Eva Le Queen's Divisoria-inspired outfit calling it "trash."

Eva said that they are now on good terms after Laurel patched things up.

Drag Race Philippines will air its final episode on Oct. 12 with top four competitors Eva Le Queen, Marina Summers, Precious Paula Nicole, and Xilhouete vying for the crown.
