Gotham Knights revealed at DC FanDome
After a series of rumors and teasers, WB Games Montreal finally took the wraps off its new post-Batman game, Gotham Knights during the first half of DC Comics’ FanDome digital event over the weekend.
The brand-new open-world RPG will feature Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood as new protectors of Gotham City against the Court of Owls and other infamous villains following the alleged death of the Dark Knight.
The announcement came with a full-length cinematic trailer and a glimpse of its gameplay. The first one sets up the premise of the game: the protégés of the Caped Crusader suddenly receive a pre-recorded video message from Bruce Wayne himself, informing them of his demise and it's now up to the new heroes to keep the Gotham baddies at bay. The gameplay reveal, meanwhile, featured Batgirl and Robin in a chaotic Gotham City. The clip showed how the duo used their abilities to take out several enemies while infiltrating the lair of Mr. Freeze.
Every character in the game has a unique set of abilities, gear, weapons and customizable suit. Barbara, Jim Gordon’s daughter, is described as “a determined fighter and a skilled hacker.” She wields her melee tonfa and utilizes her training in kickboxing, capoeira and jiu-jitsu during combat. Dick Grayson’s Nightwing, a.k.a. the first Robin, uses acrobatics and dual escrima sticks making him deadly against the enemies.
Red Hood, formerly known as Jason Todd, has peak human strength and also proficient in various combat techniques and weapons. Robin, meanwhile, is an “expert fighter armed with his collapsible quarterstaff and skilled in a variety of stealth techniques.”
Gotham Knights will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC next year.
