EXO’s Xiumin halts activities after testing positive for COVID-19; other members in self-isolation
EXO’s Xiumin, also known as Kim Minseok, has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Korean news portal Soompi, EXO’s entertainment agency SM Entertainment confirmed Xiumin’s diagnosis in an official statement released on Thursday, Aug. 5.
“On July 29, Xiumin received a COVID-19 PCR test in order to practice for his musical Hadestown and tested negative. However, he received an additional PCR test on Aug. 4 due to symptoms of changes in his health, and he was diagnosed today (Aug. 5),” the statement read.
SM Entertainment also shared that EXO members and Xiumin’s staff have been tested for COVID-19, and are in self-quarantine as they await their results.
In addition, the cast and staff members of Xiumin’s musical Hadestown will also be tested for COVID-19.
The entertainment agency said that Xiumin has “immediately halted all scheduled activities and will actively follow the process and guidance given by health authorities.”
“We will also do our best in order for the artist to make a speedy recovery,” SM Entertainment added.
Xiumin debuted as the lead dancer and lead vocalist of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO in 2012. The group released their special album “Don’t Fight the Feeling” in June 2021.
As of this writing, the members who are currently active include Xiumin, Lay, Kyungsoo, Kai, and Sehun. Members Chen, Suho, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun are enlisted in the military.
