Princess Diana's brother on conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton
Princess Diana's younger brother weighed in on the conspiracy theories surrounding Kate Middleton, saying that he's worrying about "what happened to the truth."
In a BBC interview, Earl Charles Spencer shared his thoughts on Kate being the subject of speculations and conspiracy theories since she postponed her public duties following her abdominal surgery in January. The talk about her and her whereabouts was fueled further when she admitted to editing her family portrait with her three children, which was released by the Kensington Palace for Mother's Day.
"I do worry about what happened to the truth," he told the media outlet when asked about the Princess of Wales.
Earl likened the scrutiny surrounding Kate to what Princess Diana faced before she died in 1997, but noted that it "was more dangerous back in the day."
"If I look back to '97 and Diana's death, I think that was so shocking, the circumstance of her death was so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn't do. Not because they had a moral judgment, but because it was unacceptable to the public," he said.
Princess Diana passed away in a car crash in Paris when she was 36. According to NBC News, the vehicle crashed into a concrete pillar while she was trying to outrun paparazzi photographers. It killed her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and her driver at the scene, while she was brought to a nearby hospital where she later died.
Kate was reportedly seen in public earlier this week at a farmer's market in Windsor. British tabloid The Sun shared a video and photo of her with her husband Prince William.
An insider recently told Harper's Bazaar that Kate is "doing well."
"[This situation] has caused some stress for the princess, but she tends not to pay attention to online chatter or even the press. I think people forget that this was simply a mother wanting her family to look their best in a photograph that was going to be heavily scrutinized. She was protecting her children," another source said.
