The sequel to the film adaptation of The Old Guard is officially happening at Netflix.

The streaming giant confirmed on Friday that Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all set to reprise their roles in The Old Guard 2 with Victoria Mahoney attached to helm the project.

Gina Prince-Blythewood, who directed the first film, will serve as a producer for the upcoming film.

"Genuinely blown backwards by the collective levels of talent, skill and savvy that went into carving The Old Guard," Mahoney said in a statement. "I must've watched it over a hundred times, and as such, cannot communicate the true measure of my excitement--being invited on The Old Guard journey alongside ferocious badasses."

She added: "Ever eager to continue pushing the genre for action-loving audiences. Warmly tipping my hat to the world Gina, Charlize, Rucka, Fernández, Skydance, Netflix, Marc Evans Productions, Denver and Delilah Films and the entire Team daringly put forward."

The Old Guard follows a group of immortal mercenaries who must band together after their identities and extraordinary abilities have been discovered by pharmaceutical executive Steven Merrick. The sequel, meanwhile, is expected to see Andy and her crew take on Quynh (Ngo), an immortal who spent centuries inside an iron casket under the sea.

The action-adventure film based on the comic book series created by author Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández first premiered on Netflix last year and garnered 78 million views in its first four weeks.

The Old Guard 2 is slated to begin production in the first quarter of 2022.
