The official trailer of Pulang Araw is now out.

On Tuesday, July 16, Netflix Philippines dropped the official trailer for GMA Network’s upcoming historical drama set in the 1940s, which is set to premiere on the platform on July 16 and on GMA Prime on July 29.

The short video showed a glimpse of the main characters’ story during World War II. Eduardo Dela Cruz, portrayed by Alden Richards, is a fierce patriot who was seen in war and imprisoned. He is the half-brother of Adelina Dela Cruz (Barbie Forteza), who aspires to be a vaudeville star alongside her half-sister, Teresita Borromeo (Sanya Lopez). The three also have a troubled relationship with Teresita’s mother, Carmela Borromeo (Angelu De Leon).

Meanwhile, David Licauco’s character as Hiroshi Tanaka, a son of Japanese immigrants, also showed him in the trailer all bruised up, saying "Mamamatay akong may dangal kaysa mamatay akong isang sinungaling." When the world war began, he was forced to serve his country as a soldier.

The trailer also showed warplanes as they wreaked havoc in the country.

This comes a week after the network dropped its official primer video to introduce the full cast.

Dennis Trillo joins the cast as the main antagonist Col. Yuta Saitoh, a Japanese imperial army officer who aims to conquer the Philippines. His love interest would be Teresita.

Other cast members include Rochelle Pangilinan as Amalia Dimalanta-Torres and Neil Ryan Sese as her husband Lauro Torres. She was forced to serve as a comfort woman after being caught by the Japanese, along with the nun Manuela Apolonio played by Ashley Ortega.

Mikoy Morales and Aidan Veneracion will play guerilla members Tasyo and Mario.

Julie Anne San Jose will have a special participation as Katy Dela Cruz, the queen of vaudeville. The rest of the cast also includes Derrick Monasterio, Isay Alvarez, Rabiya Mateo, Maria Ozawa, and Rhian Ramos, among others.

Pulang Araw will depict the challenging lives of Filipinos during the Japanese Occupation. It was written by Suzette Doctolero and directed by Dominic Zapata.
