Here's another reason to be excited for the second season of Squid Game.

According to a South China Morning Post report, show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said at a recently concluded promotional event for the hit Korean show that its next installment is bound to be "more intriguing" than the first one.

"In Season 2, Gi-hun, who survived Season 1, returns to the games—not to win this time around, but to put an end to these games," he teased.

"There is going to be a larger number of characters this time and more intriguing games that are all worthy of a lot of the viewers’ love and support," continued Hwang.

Lee Jung Jae, who plays the role of Gi-hun, said that his character is a "very different person" in the upcoming season. "This time around, he wants revenge. He wants to catch the people behind the games and he wants to bring them to justice," he shared.

Squid Game 2 will feature the original cast from Season 1. Aside from Lee, it will also include Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo.

New players completing the cast are Korean actors Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ae-sim, and former member of the K-pop group BigBang, Choi Seung-hyun (also known as T.O.P).

Squid Game follows the story of 456 individuals, who are buried in financial debt, playing a series of thrilling, deadly games. Only one winner would bring home the jackpot prize of 45.6 billion Korean won (P2 billion).

The first season premiered in October 2021 and has become one of Netflix’s hit series, garnering nods and historic wins in prestigious awards shows like winning six Emmys in 2022.

Squid Game 2 will be available on Netflix on Dec. 26.
