You don't have to put on diving gear to witness the beauty of life under the sea. There's no need to go far to get a glimpse, as this year’s light festival in Bonifacio Global City will make all your underwater fantasies come true.

Boni Viva Luci, the BGC Light Festival in 2024, has made a return with a theme that centers on the renowned seas of the Philippines.

Wittingly titled “BG-SEA,” the new light show will make your visit to Bonifacio High Street special with enchanting installations lasting a whole week.

One display you can admire is “See-life” by Martin Gallego in a pond along Bonifacio High Street. This mixed installation features wires, fiberglass, and lights forming mesmerizing jellyfish and fishermen’s boats.

Another artwork that will boost your love for the marine world even more is “A Question of Blue” by Isaiah Cacnio at the East Park.

The extravagant art projection shows the motion of real-life footage of waves on the cloth while overlaying digital, intricate fractals, creating a fusion of light reflecting and deflecting on the surface. The captivating sight will stir your mind and encourage you to reflect on the beauty of the ocean and the vast sky.

What’s even better is that you won’t have to break open your wallet as you can check out the light festival for free.

At the center of it all was a grand musical titled “Ori and Bati in BG-SEA” held on May 18. Helmed by renowned musical director Rony Fortich, the story centers on its titular character Ori the oarfish, as he travels through the vast ocean to find his friend Bati the batfish.

Their journey leads them to face the issues that threaten underwater life.

Right from the get-go, the musical sets a lively mood full of color and energy as singers Kakki Teodoro, Nica Tupas, OJ Mariano, and Vic Robinson take the stage to serenade the audience with some familiar songs close to the heart like True Colors, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, What a Wonderful World, and Top of the World.

Some Disney classics were also played, including A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, Beyond the Sea from Finding Nemo, and—of course—it would be a crime to forget Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid.

All of these are woven beautifully into the story as the musical is made more enchanting with some dozen larger-than-life puppets by Puppet Theater Manila.

The art installations of the Boni Viva Luci: BG-SEA festival will be open to the public until May 25.
