Korean survival drama Squid Game, which became Netflix’s most successful series this year, earned three nominations at the 2022 Golden Globes.

Squid Game is nominated for Best Television Series, along with two acting nods for lead stars, and is going up against Netflix’s Lupin, The Morning Show on Apple TV Plus, Pose on FX, and Succession on HBO for the Best TV Series award this year.

Lee Jung Jae, who portrayed Player 456/Seong Gi-hu is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama alongside Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong in Succession, Billy Porter in Pose, and Omar Sy in Lupin.

O Yeong Su who played Player 001/Oh Il-nam is nominated for Best Supporting Actor - Television alongside Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass in The Morning Show, Kieran Culkin in Succession, and Brett Goldstein in Ted Lasso

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominees for their annual Golden Globe Awards Monday (Dec. 13) in a live ceremony with HFPA president Helen Hoehne and rapper Snoop Dogg.

In the film categories, dramas The Power of the Dog and Belfast led the nominations with seven nods each. They join Dune, King Richard, and Coda for the Best Motion Picture (Drama) award.

The 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards marks a controversial year for the award giving body, amid criticisms of diversity among others leading to a scaled down ceremony.

The Golden Globes are one of the major awards shows leading up to the Academy Awards in the United States and awards both television and film.

The 79th Golden Globes will be held on Jan. 9, 2022.
