Peak 'sabaw' levels: A missing drunk man in Turkey joined a search party looking for himself

Published Sep 29, 2021 4:04 pm

Bayhan Mutlu, 50, sparked the concern of his friends when he didn't return after a night of drinking in a rural neighborhood near İnegöl in Turkey. They soon informed the police, who found out that Mutlu wandered into the woods, and immediately, a search and rescue mission was put together.

As news of his disappearance spread through the neighborhood, Mutlu's friends and other residents joined the search party to find him faster. They also had several teams from the Bursa region scouring the area for the missing man. Their search was unproductive, finding no trace of the 50-year-old in the area he was last seen.

And then, something happened.

After some time in the woods, the search party decided to call out Mutlu by name repeatedly, according to local news site Vaziyet. In a bizarre turn of events, someone in the group chimed in, saying, "Who are we looking for? I'm right here!" It was Mutlu himself, who appeared to be visibly intoxicated. He participated in the search mission for himself.

It's still unclear how the drunk Mutlu joined the party or how, more funnily, his own friends failed to recognize him among the team throughout their mission.

Vaziyet reports that the 50-year-old has been returned safely to his home by authorities, leaving police to file an incredibly bizarre and amusing missing person incident.

Something similar happened in Iceland in 2012, where a woman took part in a major mountain search for a missing tourist who ended up being her.
