Lorde to release new single 'Stoned At The Nail Salon' this week
New Zealand artist Lorde is set to release the second single off her comeback album Solar Power this July 21.
Titled Stoned At The Nail Salon, the new track is set to take a step back from the cheeriness of her first single and into a folksy introspective Lorde that fans are more familiar with.
In an interview with The Guardian, the 24-year artist shared that the upcoming song is about accepting the passage of time in the midst of your twenties—all while being stoned in a nail salon, of course.
She furthered that creating the song was “truly the first time that I had entertained the notion that the sexy models on Instagram who made me feel inferior – they too will age. We’re all on the same bus. At some point, we have to get on the bus back.”
“That kind of searching, being unsure that I had chosen the right path and feeling lonely, I don’t see those as permanent or even bad emotions. It’s all part of the thing” – life – “to feel that trepidation," she shared. "Maybe it is sad, but I’m very comfortable in the periods of limbo, or times where I feel afraid or vulnerable.”
It will also feature the lyrics “all the beautiful girls will fade like the roses."
Lorde has yet to release a musical teaser of the song, though it's unlikely given that she also surprise-dropped Solar Power last June after 2017's Melodrama.
