'Up' sequel short 'Carl's Date' is coming to Disney+ on Sept. 13
Missed watching the latest sequel to Up in theaters last June? Now is not too late, as Disney has announced that Carl's Date is landing on Disney+ on Sept. 13.
Carl's Date premiered in front of the feature film Elemental in theaters last June 16. Its online release likewise goes along with Elemental's premiere on the streaming app on the 13th.
In the new short, retired balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen heads back to the dating scene years after the demise of his doting and cheerful wife, Ellie, whom many have met in Up back in 2009.
This time, Carl reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a friend he calls "Miss Meyer" despite having no idea of how dating works these days. According to the film's official synopsis, Dug would step in "to calm Carl's pre-date jitters, and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends—if you're a dog."
This apparently includes "digging in the dirt and destroying your flowers."
Written and directed by Emmy Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins, Carl's Date is the sequel to Up and its spin-off series, Dug Days, which follows the lovable pup's funny misadventures in his backyard.
Apart from Elemental, Carl's Date is heading to Disney+ with the documentary Good Chemistry: Story of Elemental where the feature film's director, Peter Sohn, takes viewers on a humorous personal journey through the inspiration behind the movie.
