'Toy Story 5' release date announced
Excited for Toy Story 5? It's finally coming to theaters in 2026.
According to a report by Variety, Disney on Friday, April 5 announced that the Pixar sequel will open in theaters on June 19, 2026, nearly seven years afte the release of its previous installment.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are expected to lend their voices to Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, in the upcoming film. Further details, including its plot, are yet to be revealed.
The production of Toy Story 5 was confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during an earnings call in February last year, calling it a "great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises."
The Toy Story franchise has had four films since 1995. The latest one was released in 2019, garnering $1 billion (P56.6 billion) at the box office, per The Hollywood Reporter.
A spinoff, dubbed Lightyear, was released in 2022. Chris Evans played the role of the original Buzz Lightyear, the in-universe astronaut, who gets a merchandising deal and eventually gets turned into a toy line, one of which is given to Andy as a birthday present in the first film.
Apart from Toy Story 5, the studio also confirmed the release dates of The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22, 2026), Tron: Ares (Oct. 10, 2025), and The Amateur (April 11, 2025). The release of the live-action adaptation of Moana, meanwhile, has been moved from June 27, 2025 to July 10, 2026.
