Dee Hsu says she regrets suggesting Japan trip where Barbie Hsu caught pneumonia

Talk show host Dee Hsu, the younger sister of the late Barbie Hsu, expressed how she regrets suggesting going to Japan, where Barbie contracted pneumonia that caused her death.

In the latest episode of Dee Girls Talk, Dee shared that she suggested their trip to the country to celebrate the New Year in 2025.

Their mother initially discouraged them from going due to higher flight costs during the holiday, but was eventually persuaded by her daughter.

"Usually, Barbie would say she was tired and did not want to go. But this time, she insisted we must go," she shared, as translated by AsiaOne.

The 47-year-old host shared that they decided to take the trip because it was the only time their children could travel abroad with them.

She went on about how she blames herself whenever they talk about Barbie. "If only I had listened to my mother, the tragedy would not have happened," Dee said.

"I was the one who initiated the trip first. So, whenever we miss Barbie and talk about her, I would tell my mum, 'It's all because I insisted on the trip then,'" she added.

"Whenever I say that, my mum would tell me not to think about it this way and blame myself because it would be harder for me to move on. But this is the fact, so I can't help but wonder, 'Why didn't I listen to my mum at the time?'" she lamented.

Dee returned to the show in February after a year-long hiatus following Barbie's death.

Barbie died in February at the age of 48 due to flu-induced pneumonia. She is survived by her two children, whom she shared with her former husband, Wang Xiaofei; her husband, DJ Koo; her two sisters; and their mother.

She rose to fame in Meteor Garden as Shancai, starring alongside the boy group F4 comprising Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu, and Vic Chou.

She also appeared in the television series Mars (2004), Corner with Love (2007), and Summer's Desire (2010). She retired from acting after marrying Wang in 2011.
