Sandara Park reveals why she has no plans of getting married

Sandara Park revealed her reason for choosing not to get married as she talked about YG Entertainment’s strict rule on dating.

In her appearance on YouTube web show No Back Tak Jae-hoon uploaded on May 25, the K-pop star shared that she has no plans of getting married and called herself a “non-maritalist.”

Korean singer and actor Tak Jae-hoon asked her: “Why, do you hate men?” To which, Dara replied that she has witnessed too many failed marriages, so she just opts to stay single. “It’s not like that. I want to stay single. There are too many people around me who have failed (marriages),” she said.

The 38-year-old idol also let slip that she prompted YG Entertainment’s strict dating ban in their group 2NE1 in the past.

“After I debuted, all these male celebrities hit on me. Yang Hyung Suk eventually heard the rumors and confiscated all four of our cellphones because of me,” she revealed.

When asked by the host about the number of people who have tried to court her, Dara said: “Let’s just say plenty of sunbaes (older) and hoobaes (younger).”

“At the time, I guess my age was perfect (for dating). Because I debuted at 26, hoobaes can hit on me. Sunbaes were like, all 2nd gen idols were young but she’s 26, so it might work. So, both sides hit on me,” Sandara recalled with a laugh.

After her successful career in the Philippines, Dara moved to South Korea to become a K-pop idol. She debuted under the girl group in 2009, along with Park Bom, CL, and Minzy.

In her appearance on KBS JOY’s Love Intervention in 2020, Dara opened up about how the dating ban has affected her love life.

“When I was a trainee, I was scolded for being in a relationship, and my manager took away my cellphone. Then after I debuted, there was a five-year dating ban,” she said. “I really didn’t date because they told me not to.”

After strictly following the rule, Dara decided to date men in secret, but her romances did not last long.

“I’ve been in ‘untact’ (non-face-to-face contact) relationships even before COVID-19,” she said.

“Only recently did I make up my mind to date actively. All I needed was a will to be more assertive. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to my ex-boyfriends,” she added.
