KC Concepcion's photo taken by Mark Nicdao now at Getty Museum in Los Angeles
KC Concepcion's 2008 photo taken by celebrity photographer Mark Nicdao is now part of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
In an Instagram post on Jan. 20, Concepcion shared her photo being printed, a screenshot of her profile on the Getty website plus an excerpt of her chat with Nicdao, and a digital version of her monochrome portrait.
Her profile reads, "A woman with her arms outstretched and one leg raised. She is wearing a dress with many ruffled layers cascading down the front. It has a V neckline lined with large stones. The dress was designed by Puey Quiñones."
The photo is labeled "K.C. Concepcion, Makati," a "negative 2008; print 2023."
In her caption, Concepcion said she has always known that Nicdao was destined for greatness, "but where he is now is all him: raw talent, vision, relentless hard work, and the mind (and heart!) of a genius."
“I’m beyond honored to share that a photograph of mine from 2008, captured by my dear friend and creative visionary Mark Nicdao—and wearing Puey Quiñones—has been acquired (along with his other incredible works) by none other than the iconic Getty,” she said.
Concepcion noted that she and Mark have been through "so many creative adventures, and seeing his extraordinary talent celebrated at this level is so inspiring."
"Being part of this milestone in his journey makes it so much more meaningful!" she added.
In concluding her post, Concepcion said she's proud of Nicdao, and that she's "grateful to be part of YOUR moment."
"Here’s to timeless art, enduring friendships, and the magic that comes from chasing dreams," she said. "Marky, here’s to many more pursuits together. Always your biggest fan."
In the comments section, Nicdao recalled the 2008 moment he had with Concepcion as he thanked her and called her "beautiful."
"I don't know how you do this sculptural poses!" he said, adding that her dress "wrapped around" her movement.
In a now-expired Instagram Story, Nicdao shared a certificate from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts allowing him to temporarily export two photos, including Concepcion's, to the United States.
Concepcion is an actress, singer, television host, and humanitarian. Her career began as a video jockey at MTV Asia. She starred in movies like For the First Time (2008) and When I Met U (2009), as well as teleseryes Lovers in Paris (2009), Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala (2013), and Ikaw Lamang (2014).
Nicdao has been making waves not only locally but also internationally. He was part of a group of contemporary artists at Asia Now Paris in October 2022. In 2023, he mounted a solo exhibition in Canal Grande in Venice. In January 2024, Nicdao served as a portrait photographer during the wedding of Brunei’s Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha Rosnah.
According to its website, the Getty Museum "seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance."
