Marcus Adoro to step back from Eraserheads activities following rape allegations

Warning: This article includes mention of rape.

Marcus Adoro will take a step back from Eraserheads’ upcoming project following recent rape allegations against him, the band’s frontman Ely Buendia said.

In late-March, a Reddit user posted about how they were allegedly raped by Adoro when they were in high school.

"Now I have to see his face all over the news and social media because of the Eraserheads reunion. F**k this guy for telling me masuwerte ako na hindi niya na all-the-way dahil lang nagpupumiglas ako," user NMomThrowaway12345 wrote.

They then went on to say that it's "unfair" for people to "forgive and forget" Adoro's alleged actions as "he's a known and recorded abuser of women."

"He raped me and countless other women—tried to rape one acquaintance of mine, as well," the user claimed.

The Reddit user also called out the rest of the band, Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, and Raimund Marasigan, for "having no principles."

"They previously stated that they did not condone abuse. Pera lang pala ang katapat ninyo. Pa-Spoliarium Spoliarium pa kayo, mga ipokrito," they added, referencing the band's 1997 song believed to be about the rape of Pepsi Paloma.

Adoro to step back

In response to the accusations, Buendia issued a statement on X on April 6.

"We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online," he said. "As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse of any form. Above all, we seek the truth."

He then stated that as Adoro makes time to address the matter, he will step back from the upcoming project.

The band announced in March that they would stage their first-ever Electric Fun Music Festival on May 31 at the SMDC Festival Grounds. The event will feature their timeless hits as well as performances from rising and seasoned artists.

"We move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility," Buendia ended.

In 2019, Adoro's daughter Syd Hartha and ex-partner Barbara Ruaro accused the Eraserheads guitarist of physical and verbal abuse.

After the allegations were brought to light again in 2022 when the band announced their reunion concert, Adoro penned an open letter to his daughter on Instagram.

At the time, he said that he tried to reach out to her after losing contact for years.

"Syd, san ka man, I hope you're doing well. As you well know, I'm far from perfect kay normal if you want nothing to do with me. Sana lang magkaroon ng second chance for redemption," he said.

"I'm sorry for the ruckus that I may have caused my family, the public, the sponsors, and my bandmates. Pasensya na."

If you are, or if you personally know someone being abused, don’t hesitate to seek help to stop the abuse.
