Nadine Lustre, the former on- and off-screen partner of James Reid, minced no words in saying she didn't like the perceived "competition" among love teams like JaDine, LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil), and KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla).
The actress made the remarks during her guest appearance in the 12th episode of Bea Alonzo's #ByBea Lie Detector YouTube vlog uploaded on April 16.
Alonzo asked if Lustre thinks that JaDine was competing with KathNiel and LizQuen. To which, the latter replied: "I didn't like that there was a competing aspect to it. Back then, di ko siya nage-gets kung bakit may ganoon."
Lustre said she was just doing what she had to do as an actress.
"Nafe-feel ko lang na pinagko-compete lang kami ng mga tao, pero 'di ko siya iniisip," she said.
Though noting she's "competitive" as a person, Lustre said she didn't want love teams to be pitted against each other.
She also lamented how there's still perceived competition among love teams today.
Today's rising love teams include Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, David Licauco and Barbie Forteza, Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali, Seth Fedelin and Francine Diaz, among others.
"Even until now, nakikita ko siya," Lustre said.
"Lalo na sa mga babae, we're supposed to empower each other," Alonzo said, to which Lustre nodded in affirmation.
JaDine made its debut in 2014 romantic drama Diary ng Panget. The love team also starred in much-loved films like Talk Back and You're Dead, Para sa Hopeless Romantic, This Time, and Never Not Love You.
The pair gained more popularity in teleseryes On the Wings of Love and Till I Met You. They also collaborated on pop songs like Bahala Na, No Erase, and Hanap-Hanap. Lustre released her album Wildest Dreams in 2020 under Reid's label Careless.
From being on-screen partners, Lustre and Reid announced that they became couple in February 2016. They confirmed their breakup in January 2020.
