Lee Jong Suk expresses adoration for IU: 'Her existence itself gives me strength'
Talking about the “turbulent period” of his life, Lee Jong Suk said that what made him keep going is his girlfriend, IU.
The Big Mouth star got real in his recent interview with Esquire Korea, where he talked about how he’s been looking for “essence” now that he’s in his 30s.
“Everyone goes through that period as they enter their 30s. When I was in my 20s, I thought that no matter what I did, people would understand me, but now that I am in my 30s, I think I should treat anyone I meet and talk with more maturely,” Jong Suk said.
“It’s a time when self-censorship, which requires you to become more mature in everything, occurs,” the 33-year-old actor continued.
Delving more into his journey toward maturity, Jong Suk opened up about what triggered him in thinking about the things in his life.
“Besides, I think I was contemplating these things because it was the time I was returning after going through a turbulent period of military service,” he said.
Jong Suk then proceeded how singer-actress IU helped him while going through a rough patch in entering his 30s.
“It might sound like a cliché if I say that her existence itself gives me [a place to] rely on and strength,” he said. “But so many other people besides myself are comforted by her music, her lyrics, and her comforting words.”
“The only difference is that I receive that kind of comfort while having a conversation [with her],” he added.
Talking further about their relationship, Jong Suk recalled how they have been friends for a long time, describing IU as his “funniest friend in the whole world.”
“We’ve been friends since I was in my mid-20s, which means that we met each other when we were quite young,” he continued.
Apart from being his safe haven, Jong Suk revealed how IU has been inspiring her to become a better man. He said, “When she tells me, ‘You’ve become a lot more mature now,’ I feel like I want to become even more mature.”
Lee Jong Suk and IU’s relationship was announced to the public by Dispatch in late December. Prior to the announcement, the two have been officially dating for four months.
