SEVENTEEN's S.Coups exempted from military service due to knee injury
SEVENTEEN’s leader S.Coups has been exempted from mandatory military service after sustaining a knee injury in 2023.
The group’s agency PLEDIS Entertainment announced on March 1 that the K-pop idol, whose real name is Choi Seungcheol, is exempted from enlisting as the K-pop idol is still in the process of rehabilitation therapy which began last year, as reported by Soompi.
“Due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee joint, S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery. Because it was a major surgery, he has been undergoing physical rehabilitation therapy for a long time, starting from last year up until now,” the announcement read.
In case you missed it, S.Coups has been on hiatus since August 2023 after getting a knee injury while playing a ball game while shooting for content. He was also absent from the Follow shows in Bulacan in January.
With this, S.Coups has been classified as Grade 5—in South Korea, men under the grade will be exempted from military service during peacetime but would be required to join the force and do labor in case of war.
Prior to this, PLEDIS announced that S.Coups and Jeonghan will be joining the group activities this March, which will kick off with the group’s upcoming encore concert in Incheon.
The group made a comeback with their 11th mini album dubbed SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN in October 2023. In April 2023, they released their award-winning extended play FML and a hit single Super.
