Millie Bobby Brown calls out press over 'bullying,' comments on her appearance

Published Mar 04, 2025 11:49 am

Millie Bobby Brown took to Instagram to address members of the press for "bullying" her over changes in her physical appearance.

"I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can't seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I'm supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things season 1," she said.

The actress, 21, then said that because she doesn't look the same, she's become a "target." Afterward, she began to list some articles and headlines on her appearance such as "Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown ageing so badly? " and "Millie Bobby Brown mistaken for someone's mom as she guides younger sister Ava through LA."

"This isn't journalism. this is bullying," the Stranger Things star said.

"The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it's disturbing. The fact that some of these articles are written by women? Even worse."

Millie made headlines as she was seen on red carpets for her upcoming Netflix film The Electric Slate, the 2025 Brit Awards, and the 2025 SAG Awards.

"I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can't handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself," the actress continued.

She then called for people to "do better," not just for her, but for other young girls.

Millie rose to fame in 2016 when she starred as Eleven in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. She has since starred in other films and shows such as Enola Homes, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Damsel.

The actress wrapped the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which hits Netflix in 2025.

Millie tied the knot with Jake Bongiovi, son of Jon Bon Jovi, in 2024 after they began dating in 2021.
