Hilary Duff speaks up on rumored feud with her sister Haylie
Hilary Duff has broken her silence on her "complicated" family dynamic amid longstanding rumors of a rift between her and her sister Haylie.
In an interview with Glamour, the Lizzie McGuire alum briefly opened up about her "complicated family dynamic," which she seemingly touched on in her upcoming album.
"That's my family. Those are the people that affect you the most, take up the most space naturally as a human who's born into something," she told the publication. However, she was quick to note that "just because you’re born into a family doesn't mean that it always stays together."
"You can only control your side and your street. I've had a very complicated life, and my parents had a very complicated thing," the 38-year-old opened up. "I know it's not rare, and I think it goes back to the theme of, 'Why share now?' I guess I just felt ready."
Fans have speculated that two recently released tracks from her upcoming album, Luck... or Something address her family life.
In We Don't Talk, Hilary ponders on a sudden lack of communication with someone: “I'm not sure when it happened, not even sure what it was about. If I did something different, would you feel something different? Would you at least let me hear you out?”
In The Optimist, she also seems to talk about her estranged dad Bob: "I wish I could sleep on planes and that my father would really love me."
Hilary and Haylie are known for having a close bond as both singers and actresses. The two starred together on the 2001 Disney Channel dramedy series Lizzie McGuire, the 2006 film Material Girls, and song covers like The Go-Go's Our Lips Are Sealed.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the two have not been seen together in pictures for years. Haylie was also seen liking fellow Disney alum Ashley Tisdale's post about exiting a "toxic mom group," which reportedly includes Hilary. As of writing, they have made no public comments about their relationship.
Hilary's parents Bob and Susan Duff divorced in 2008 after 20 years. In the same year, Bob spent 10 days in jail for contempt of court after selling family assets without permission. He reportedly blamed his estrangement from his wife on her children's showbiz careers.
Hilary's full album will be released on Feb. 20.
