TV personality Mario Lopez to host Miss Universe 2024 pageant
American actor and television personality Mario Lopez is set to host the 73rd Miss Universe competition.
The Miss Universe organization announced him as the host of the upcoming coronation night in an Instagram post on Friday, Oct. 18.
"BREAKING NEWS! We’re excited to announce that [Mario Lopez], a renowned figure in American television, will host our grand finale," it said in the caption. "With over 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry, his charm, commitment, and passion ensure a night to remember."
The Miss Universe 2024 tilt is slated for Nov. 16 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. It will introduce a new pageant format. Of the 130 delegates, top 30 will be chosen, consisting of 25 delegates picked by judges, four "continental queens," and one fan vote. The top 5 candidates, meanwhile, will come from the top 12's evening gown competition.
Philippines' Chelsea Manalo is aiming to take home the fifth Miss U crown for the country after Catriona Gray (2018), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
Manalo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines in May, making history as the first Filipina of African descent to win the title.
