Teresa Loyzaga says she put her son Diego Loyzaga into rehab: 'There was a part of me that died'

"We have to understand na 'yung mga mahal natin sa buhay, pag nalulong sa droga, pag kinakausap mo sila at binabastos ka nila, hindi sila 'yun," she said.

"Noong mawala ang lahat ng 'yun, bumalik 'yung anak ko. Naintindihan niya," she added.

Teresa said she also visited Diego secretly during his eight-month rehab, which she described as "part of his punishment" for him to learn and appreciate home and family.

"Minsan, pader lang 'yung pagitan namin. Nandiyan sa kabila, di niya alam," she said. "Napapanood ko siya sa isang maliit na monitor. Kung nasaan siya sa loob, pag kumakain siya."

Teresa also recalled an instance in which they secretly communicated through a holed tarpaulin.

"Sabi sa akin, 'You have to promise na tatahimik ka, hindi ka magpaparamdam.' Sabi ko 'Promise, gusto ko lang talaga makalapit,'" she said. "Pagitan lang namin tarpaulin, nakasilip lang ako sa butas para makita ko lang 'yung anak ko. Ang hirap."'

Teresa said she held on to "never-ending prayers" to deal with the situation.

"Kung wala 'yun, baka ako na 'yung nasa loob," she said. "Hay, ang hirap. Pero look, there's so much to be thankful for. Every day, yes, we learn something, there a struggle. But there's also a reason to be thankful and rejoice."

In a February guesting on Fast Talk, Diego opened up about his rehab and how it changed him as a person. He has also become a mental health advocate afterward.

Diego is Teresa's son with actor Cesar Montano.

In June 2023, he announced that he was already a father.
