Seo In Guk named PH tourism ambassador for South Korea
The Department of Tourism (DOT) has named South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk as the Philippines' Celebrity Tourism Ambassador for Korea at a ceremony in Makati City on Friday, Feb. 21.
According to the agency, the designation recognized In Guk's "global influence" and "deep connection with Filipino fans." It also highlights his potential to strengthen cultural and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and South Korea.
"We are very honored to be in the presence of a man who is beloved worldwide for his vast talent endless creativity and now, his evident love for the Philippines," DOT Secretary Christina Frasco said in a statement.
The collaboration also aims to elevate the Philippines' profile as a "premier" travel destination among Korean tourists.
As a tourism ambassador, In Guk will take part in official tourism campaigns in both countries.
'Mahal ko kayo'
The 37-year-old actor expressed his excitement and gratitude towards the appointment.
"I really really want to thank everyone for making this happen for me and I really want to say that I will give back all the love that you gave to me and I will be someone to promote Philippines to others in the future. Thank you very much. Mahal ko kayo," he said.
Seo In-Guk also shared his experience during his recent visit to Cebu, where he tasted lechon. He also recalled the enthusiastic crowd that gathered to sing for him during his meal.
The newest celebrity tourism ambassador and BLACKPINK's Jisoo were spotted having fun in Cebu by eagle-eyed social media users.
As per reports, they are filming for their latest romantic-comedy drama together, Boyfriend on Demand.
In case you missed it, Netflix confirmed on Feb. 20 that the Korean stars will lead the cast in the upcoming drama.
The new series is set in a virtual world where users can subscribe to a boyfriend. Jisoo will play Seo Mi Rae, a career-focused webtoon producer whose life takes a turn when she unexpectedly receives a "Monthly Boyfriend" device that lets her find love in a virtual world.
In Guk will play Park Kyeong Nam, a fellow webtoon producer and Seo Mi Rae's coworker and rival. He is described as cold and self-centered, but "hides a surprising secret," and is set to "shake up Mi Rae's world."
More details about the offering, including other cast members, trailer, and release date, have yet to be announced.
In Guk is also known for his roles in Reply 1997, Doom at Your Service, Cafe Minamdang, and Death's Game, to name a few.
