Jessy Mendiola reveals she almost broke up with Luis Manzano

Jessy Mendiola revealed that she and Luis Manzano once hit a rough patch and it reached a point when they almost broke up.

During a "Truth or Dare" game on Jessy's YouTube channel, she opened up about a time when she almost left her husband when asked, "Described the time you almost broke up with your spouse." She acknowledged that they had a difficult time due to the people around Luis.

"'Yun yung time na may mga tao sa paligid niya na talagang hindi okay, kakasal pa lang namin nun actually, mga one year palang kaming kasal," she revealed, adding that a certain person has a grudge on her when she married Luis.

“Kinasal kami, the next day, inaway-away ako no’ng taong ‘yun. Ayun pala kaya pala siya galit na galit sa akin kasi may tinatago pala siyang sikreto na karumal-dumal na malala. So, talagang, doon ko naamoy na, ‘May something ‘tong tao na ‘to. Bakit parang galit na galit siya na kinasal kami?’”

At that time, Jessy opened up to Luis about how she felt about that individual, warning him that it might not be healthy for their relationship and family in the long term. This, however, sparked a heated dispute between them.

"Kulang na lang kampihan n’ya yung mga tao na ‘yun. Tapos, naupo ako, parang, ‘Teka lang. Ako ‘yung asawa, ‘di ba? Bakit parang hindi niya ako pinapaniwalaan?’” She recalled.

She added, "Tandaan niyo guys, ang asawa ninyo, sila talaga ang magbe-break or make sa inyo. So kailangan ang mga babae kapag may nararamdaman sila about you, or about sa mga paligid niyo dapat pakinggan niyo kasi for your own good 'yun."

Jessy also stated that her intuition led to an emotional debate with her husband, who defended those people, claiming they were good since he considered them family. 

"Sinabi ko sa kanya, nagagalit pa siya sa akin, hindi pa niya ako pinapansin, tapos sinasabi niya, 'Mali ka, matagal ko na silang kilala, halos kababata ko sila, part of the family sila.'"

During those times, Jessy even thought that Luis is not yet ready to become a father. "Hindi ka pwedeng maging tatay kasi either piliin mo yung pamilya mo o piliin mo ‘yung mga kaibigan mo na hindi okay para sa’yo."

'Hindi na po ako pinapakinggan ng asawa ko'

The 31-year-old Kapamilya actress revealed that she had reached out to her mother-in-law, Vilma Santos, to discuss their marital problems, saying she was ready to give up on the marriage.

"'Momshie, hindi ko na po talaga kaya, mahal ko po kayo pero hindi na po ako pinapakinggan ng asawa ko,'" she recalled.

Vilma persuaded Jessy to stay because they were only beginning their marriage. She took that advice to heart despite her emotional state, and ultimately, her patience paid off when those people's genuine intentions were revealed.

Jessy said: "After a few days nung nagpapaalam na ako kay Momshie, nagising siya sa katotohanan. It wasn't easy. Gradual na nangyari na nakakalas siya sa mga taong 'yun. I got vindicated in the end."

"For me talaga, 'pag pamilya ko talaga ginalaw niyo gagawin ko talaga ang lahat para mailabas 'yung totoo," she continued.

Jessy and Luis tied the knot anew last February in Coron, Palawan. They first got married at The Farm in San Benito in Batangas in February 2021 after five years of dating.
