Andrea Brillantes defends herself against rude comments following her 'Date or Pass' video

Andrea Brillantes has defended herself over her "Date of Pass" vlog, which had social media users criticizing her for being "flirty" after she shared which celebrity she would want to go on a date with.

The vlog, which was uploaded by Andrea on her YouTube channel on Aug. 21, showed the actress and a few of her friends playing their version of the "Jojowain o Totropahin" game, wherein she answered whether she would want to "date or pass" a certain celebrity shown to her.

Some of the famous faces she would want to date include Kai Sotto, Ian Veneracion's son Draco, Jericho Rosales' son Santino, and most notably, Ina Raymundo's son Jakob.

The lighthearted video did not seem to pass some of the audience's approval, however, and Andrea has since been receiving rude comments that accuse her of trying to get the attention of the male personalities because of her single status following her break-up with basketball star Ricci Rivero.

Addressing this on her TikTok, Andrea shared that she encountered these types of remarks under the comments section of news articles pertaining to her viral video.

"I saw a couple of articles [tungkol doon sa] sinabi ko na parang 'I'm single,' na-gwagwapuhan ako sa guy na 'to. Tapos alam niyo, wala akong pang-amoy pero doon pa lang naaamoy ko na 'yung comments section," Andrea said.

"I had a feeling na, 'Siguro 'yung comments section puno na ng boomers. Siguro sinasabi nila na puro ako boys, hanap ako nang hanap, mag-pahinga naman muna ako.' Or to be harsh, malandi daw ako. Pero hindi rin naman nagkamali ang lola niyo dahil tama nga ako. Puro 'yun nga ang nasa comments section," she continued.

The local star then reiterated the disclaimer she put on her video, "Please, we're just girls having fun, don't take this seriously."

Explaining the reason why she named the vlog "Date or Pass" instead of "Jojowain o Totropahin," Andrea said, "The term 'jojowain' for me is too serious na, and the last time I did that type of content, I actually ended up being with the guy na tinropa ko. Syempre, ayoko na maulit 'yun 'di ba?"

The actress went on to say that she finds the rude comments to her funny.

"Ang daming nagsasabi na hanap ako nang hanap or I'm trying so hard. Not to be mayabang or anything, but I don't really need to try. It's really not that hard for me, just being honest. If I really wanted to date a guy right now, edi sana meron na," she said.

"Just like what I stated in my video, I am not looking for anyone right now. I'm happily single and enjoying my youth. It was just for content and entertainment," she emphasized.

Andrea also bared that she has ill-feelings towards the articles written about her vlog and described them as "sexist."

"I really said a lot of things pero 'yun lang 'yung na-pick up. So parang pinapamukha lang na I'm such a mababaw person and all I think about is boys, boys, boys. Pero 'yung totoo, hindi naman talaga," she said.

The homegrown Kapamilya artist ended her video by stressing that even if she was serious about her "Date or Pass" vlog, she should not be getting any hate for it.

"I don't think a woman should be getting any hate for making the first move. For me, that's not being malandi at all. I don't think a woman should be receiving harsh words and hate just because she's being courageous sa lalaking natitipuhan niya," Andrea said.

She continued, "I also don't think I should be getting hate if I ever decide to put myself out there na. Tinitignan ko kasi siya sa perspective na I'm in my 20s, I own a business, I have a nice career, I pay my bills and taxes, so why need to hate when I just want to have fun?"

Andrea and Ricci started dating in April 2022 until breakup rumors sparked in May this year, with some netizens speculating that beauty queen-turned-politician Leren Bautista was involved in their split. Ricci has since denied that a third party wrecked their relationship.

Andrea meanwhile shared that she has now moved on and has already forgiven her ex-boyfriend.
