Catriona Gray to serve as Miss Universe commentator for the third time in 2024 pageant
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray will serve as a commentator again for Miss Universe, this time for its 73rd edition happening next month in Mexico.
"Yes. I will be in Mexico in November, second week to support Chelsea [Manalo] but also to serve as commentator once again," she said during a press conference for her upcoming Legacy Ball, which aims to raise funds for Young Focus, a non-governmental organization in Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila. "I am grateful for the trust of the Miss Universe Organization for inviting me once again for the third year in a row."
"Iba talaga experiencing it from an audience just watching at home 'yung mga past years and then being a candidate and then giving my farewell [walk], passing over my title then being there behind the scenes as a commentator watching the action unfold. Iba siya!" she added.
The former beauty queen also expressed her excitement for Chelsea and said she has "high hopes" that this year's bet will make the entire Philippines proud.
"I really have high hopes for Chelsea that she will really make us proud," she shared. "Really excited about her. She brings a fresh breath of air into the competition, and I know she had an ample amount of time to prepare, so I am really excited, just like all the other Filipinos are excited to see how she will really make us proud every single day."
The 73rd edition of Miss Universe is set to take place on Nov. 17 (PH time) in Mexico. Mario Lopez will host the pageant, while Brazilian artist Romero Britto, fashion designer Eva Cavalli, Miss Universe South 1978 Margaret Gardiner of South Africa, and Telemundo's Jessica Carrillo will serve as members of the selection committee.
Ana Barbara Coimbra, Fahsai Paweensuda Drouin, Janick Maceta del Castillo, Dr. Juan Manual Chaparro, Karla Guilfu Acevedo, R'Bonney Nola Gabriel, and Sophiya Bhujel will be choosing its silver finalists and gold winners of Voice for Change 2024.
Chelsea is the country's representative for the 2024 Miss Universe. She's aiming to take home the fifth crown for the Philippines after Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), and Gray (2018).
