Mariah Carey says she hasn't had a driver's license for 7 years—here's why
Mariah Carey revealed she hasn't driven a car in seven years.
The 54-year-old singer shared on The Jennifer Hudson Show that she hasn't had a driver's license in years—and she joked that it's because of her "diva-esque" behavior. She, however, clarified that she still can drive a vehicle if she wants to.
"I could drive. I was going to get my license but I don't have a license, because I let it expire," she said.
"I did have one and then I left where I was living. I was living in the city and you don't really want to drive in Manhattan. Well, I don't," she continued.
Mariah also noted that she is willing to retake the driving test when she wants to renew her license again.
"When I went to go and be like, 'OK, my license,' they were like, 'Oh, well it's expired and expired like seven years ago,'" she recalled. "So then I was going to have to take the test again."
The All I Want for Christmas singer also said that she opts to have someone else take her to the destinations she needs—or wants—to go to.
"If there were one street that I could say, 'OK, this is a safe street for me to drive' I would do that," she said.
"But the thing is, it's just better for me to go with somebody in the car and not drive, but I can drive," she clarified.
Mariah is currently on a 13-date concert tour dubbed Merry Christmas One and All. She announced it last month.
The tour kicked off in Highland, CA on Nov. 15, with plans to make stops in Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, and more before concluding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 17.
