Filipino fisherman Roland Abante exits America's Got Talent qualifiers

Filipino fisherman Roland Abante has exited the qualifying round of America's Got Talent (AGT) season 18 shortly after earning another standing ovation for his performance of I Will Always Love You.

During the show's episode on Sept. 13, AGT announced that the dance group Chibi Unity and magician Anna Deguzman will be advancing to the finals.

This leaves Abante out of the competition—at least for now. The native of Cebu province could become the 11th contest to qualify in the finals should he be picked as the show's wild card during the semifinals.

Abante made headlines on the same day he was eliminated for his performance of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You where he showcased his raspy, powerful voice.

The act earned him his second standing ovation from judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara. The first was for his performance of Michael Bolton's When A Man Love A Woman during his audition in June.

The NBC show will announce the remaining two contestants to move to the finals on Sept. 20. All finalists, including the wild card, are set to appear during the finale on Sept. 26 and 27.
