Daveigh Chase left behind six-figure estate despite living on streets
Actress Daveigh Chase reportedly left behind an estate worth about $400,000 after her death.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE magazine, filed on July 8 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Chase's estate includes around $400,000 in personal property and no real estate.
The documents state that Chase died in Los Angeles on June 16 at the age of 35, was unmarried, had no children, and was unhoused at the time of her death, albeit a Chatsworth, California address was listed as her last known residence. The records also say that she is survived by her mother, Cathy, and her father, John Schwallier.
The documents also showed that Chase did not leave a last will and testament. Because of this, her mother, Cathy Chase, has asked the court to appoint her as the administrator of the estate, requested permission to manage the estate under California law and asked the court to approve a $400,000 bond.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Aug. 12 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Another filing includes Cathy’s signed statement acknowledging the responsibilities she would take on if appointed to manage the estate, including protecting its assets, notifying creditors and keeping financial records.
On June 18, Chase reportedly died after being diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood infections, as disclosed by her boyfriend Roy Hernandez in a GoFundMe page.
Later that month, the Los Angeles medical examiner listed AIDS as her cause of death, along with chronic polysubstance use and other significant conditions.
Chase rose to fame through her role in Donnie Darko and later in the American dub of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. She also brought Lilo to life in the Lilo & Stitch films, for which she won a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Voice-Over Role and an Annie Award for Outstanding Voice Acting in an Animated Feature in 2003.
She also played Samara Morgan in the hit horror film The Ring, for which she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
