Maxene Magalona reveals why she changed her mind about having children

Filipino actress Maxene Magalona said she'd like a child for the "sole purpose" of passing on what she has learned in her life's journey so far, not because everyone else is doing it.

Magalona, 36, recently responded to an Instagram follower's comment, which asked about her thoughts on motherhood and how she'd deal with her kids in the future.

She shared a screenshot of her response in a separate post on July 5, alongside a photo of her in a white dress.

"I don't have kids but I would like to have just one when God feels it's time," she said, adding that she "actually didn't want a kid before."

"But as I matured, I really had to sit with myself and ask my soul if I truly wanted a child."

Magalona noted she certainly doesn't want to bring another into this world unconsciously, and wants to move at her own pace.

"So when I meditated on it, I realized that I would like a child for the sole purpose of passing on what I learned in my journey and also make the child feel the kind of love and energy that I offer," she said. "So that they can also pass it on to the future generations."

She also acknowledged that though she isn't a mother yet, there's no one formula for parenting. Though aspiring moms can read books and study how to raise kids, Magalona believes if they don't do the inner work to heal, they'll "definitely" have a hard time raising children.

"What I would do is heal and work on my energy because kids don't follow what we say—they copy the way we behave," she said.

"So the best way for me to be a parent," Magalona said, "is to be super conscious so that I can work on myself every day and be present and emotionally connected to my child."

"I thought I’d share my answer here so that those of you who don’t have kids yet like me (or even the new Moms out there) can read it and try this method of parenting if it resonates with you," Magalona said in the caption of her post.

"I know I usually surrender and go with the flow of life but I also like to plan ahead. It’s called balance," she added.

Magalona's response is a seeming departure from her stance on motherhood in 2022. That year, when she's then 35, she hit back at a commenter who questioned why she still has no kids, saying not every woman is born to be a mom.

Magalona got married to musician Rob Mananquil in January 2018. In October 2022, she announced that they'd already been separated for months.
