Gary V's team issues public apology, ticket refund process following shortened concert
Gary Valenciano's team, Manila Genesis, issued a public apology after the first leg of the artist's "Pure Energy: One More Time" concert was shortened due to a health problem.
"We would like to apologize to all who attended Day 1 of 'Gary V. Pure Energy: One More Time' held on Dec. 20 at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Your trust and support matter to us and we regret to hear that some of you felt disappointed, or shortchanged," the production company wrote in a statement.
According to his team, this is the first time the singer cut short a concert.
"The decision to cut the concert short was not made lightly. This is the first time it has ever happened in @garyvalenciano's decades-long career. Gary has always given his all in every performance, and the Dec. 20 incident was a shock to all of us," they continued.
"Our bodies can only take so much, and so we made the decision to put his health first," they added, emphasizing that they "understand and respect that many of [fans] were disappointed with the concert not meeting [their] expectations."
Hence, the team assured fans that they could request a partial refund if they felt they "did not get the concert value" they paid for.
Manila Genesis said to email them at [email protected].
Email inquiries will be processed from Jan. 2 to 31, 2025, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The concert's first day, which happened on Dec. 20 at the Araneta Coliseum, was cut short as Gary experienced severe dehydration caused by something he ingested.
It was supposed to start at 8:00 p.m., but it was 9:20 p.m. when Gary showed up onstage and shared that he was feeling under the weather in his opening speech. "I've never faced this kind of situation before where wala nga akong ibang ginawa kundi magthrow up lang sa likod," he said as he was getting the IV cannula in his hand fixed. "I got dehydrated and they had to rehydrate me."
"So, 'yung nasa utak ko ngayon, there's a part of my brain, 'Wala na 'to, Gary, 'di mo kaya 'to. But my spirit wants to believe that, 'Kaya nga nandidito tayo ngayon, dahil sabi ni Lord, 'Ito, mangyayari.'"
"However, if at some point in time, I also feel him saying, 'Gary, this is the first time your concert's going to be like this where you won't be able to finish it but you'll still be able to speak into people's hearts through as I need you, then I'm going to do that," he said.
After singing a few of his hits, such as Di na Natuto, Warrior is a Child, and Natutulog ba Ang Diyos?, the singer said he wasn't sure if he could go through with his concert.
He sang Take Me Out of the Dark before officially ending his show.
In a Facebook post, his wife Angeli explained that the singer "ingested something and vomited so many times in the last two hours." Despite how he was feeling, Gary insisted on pushing through with the concert while doctors were on standby backstage.
The concert's second day pushed through last Sunday, Dec. 22.
"Pure Energy: One More Time" is a follow-up concert to Gary's "Pure: Energy: One Last Time" show in April.
Over the years, Gary has had several health scares. He previously suffered and survived tuberculosis and hepatitis. He also underwent open heart surgery in 2018 and battled kidney cancer.
