Saab Magalona reveals Meckel's Diverticulum sent her to the hospital during Boracay trip
Saab Magalona revealed that she was recently sent to the hospital while in Boracay as her rare congenital condition, Meckel's Diverticulum, was triggered.
The content creator shared her experience on Instagram, posting a photo from the hospital room with her husband Jim Bacarro holding her hand. She wrote about how she began not feeling well as she began a trip to Boracay on Dec. 17.
"On the morning of our flight to Boracay (four days ago), I was palpitating and was as white as a ghost. We chalked it up to bad acid and a panic attack. After checking my bp and temp (both normal), we flew," Magalona wrote, adding that she felt dizzy as she got off the plane and boat.
The Cheats vocalist said that after taking a long nap, she woke up to use the toilet, vomited, and then passed out.
As she gained consciousness again, she woke up to Bacarro screaming for help with her in his arms. They were taken to a hospital, Asia Pacific Medical Center, where she was put in the ICU for blood transfusions.
Magalona shared that something, probably stress, had triggered her Meckel's Diverticulum, a rare condition. The Cleveland Clinic describes this rare condition, occurring in 2% to 3% of the population, as a congenital outpouching or bulge in the lower part of the small intestine. The bulge is a leftover of the umbilical cord.
Meckel's Diverticulum occurs in a fetus early in the pregnancy and causes symptoms including gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain and cramping, tenderness near the navel, obstruction of bowels, and swelling of the intestinal wall.
Magalona shared that she is now stable and awaiting clearance to return to Manila to undergo surgery.
"Stay safe and listen to your bodies, everyone! Thank you Lord for giving me another day. For now, I will relax, heal, and watch Masterchef while holding hands with my hero," she concluded.
In the comments section of her posts, fellow celebrities, including Anne Curtis, Rica Peralejo, and Megan Young, are wishing for her speedy recovery.
