Kylie Padilla on her father Robin Padilla possibly running for higher office in 2028: 'Aalis na 'ko ng Pilipinas'
Kylie Padilla had an amusing reply to a reporter asking her about her father Sen. Robin Padilla's political ambitions.
In an ambush interview with News5 on Feb. 24, the actress was asked for her thoughts on her father possibly running for vice president in the 2028 national elections.
"Aalis na 'ko ng Pilipinas," Padilla laughed.
"No reaction, but aalis na 'ko ng Pilipinas," she repeated.
Asked directly if she was supporting her father's political career, Padilla repeated a third time, "Aalis na po akong Pilipinas."
'''Yun lang po ang comment...I trust in my father's judgment. 'Yun lang," she said.
Padilla, in an IG story later in the day, made a clarification on her comment.
"I only meant that aalis po ako ng Piipinas kasi gusto ko ng tahimik na buhay. It was not a comment to insult my father because I trust in his judgment and all the good he is doing for this country," she wrote.
"But I think it is also my right to know what kind of life I want to live. And that is a quiet peaceful life," she added.
Robin Padilla on possibly running for higher office
When asked in a virtual press conference on Feb. 20 if he was ready to run for higher office as vice president Sara Duterte's running mate in 2028, Robin Padilla was coy.
"Kapag utos ni [former president Duterte]. Walang puwedeng mag-utos sa akin kahit sino, si Digong lang. Kasi ayaw ko talaga ng pulitika; alam naman lahat ng...nanay ko, alam 'yan, mga kapatid ko, asawa ko. Basta sinabi ni Digong, susunod ako," the senator said.
Robin has been a long-time supporter of the Duterte family, particularly of its patriarch. In 2015, when Duterte was still undecided about running for president, he revealed in an interview that his birthday wish that year was that Duterte would run.
A year later, with Duterte having won the presidency, he granted an absolute pardon for Robin, who was convicted of illegal possession of firearms in 1994.
Robin has since staunchly defended Duterte's policies, including the latter's war on drugs. More recently, the senator has been one of the most outspoken individuals calling for Duterte to be brought home from ICC detention.
