Iñigo Pascual had some words of comfort to his ex-girlfriend Maris Racal after her breakup with singer-songwriter Rico Blanco.

In an interview with TV Patrol, Iñigo said that he had a chance to watch the press conference where Maris tearfully admitted that she and Rico have now put an end to their five-year relationship and have parted ways.

"I feel for her. I know it's tough, but I see it in a good light. The way she talks about it, she's getting to know herself, and that's something I'm very proud of her," the actor highlighted.

Iñigo went on to say that he is happy for Maris for "choosing to be strong for herself," noting, "Hindi madali 'yun eh. Minsan, you get blinded by the things you want, the things you're comfortable with."

"When you learn to choose to learn about yourself, it's a big step," he added. "Her expressing that it’s not a third party and it’s not anything else, it’s her choosing herself and getting to know herself more. It’s something that only the strongest people can do."

In her announcement, Maris said that she and Rico had a "very polite separation" and that up to the very end of their relationship, it was still "full of love, full of understanding." She also stressed that her love team partner, Anthony Jennings, had nothing to do with their split.

Without getting into details about why they decided to separate, Maris simply put that she's "going through changes" in her life at the moment.

"I don't know what happened to me. Maybe I turned to the next page and saw a new perspective sa life. I had visions of who I want to become, how I want to evolve. I'm so curious about the world and the truth is I am going through changes," she opened up.

Maris and Rico, who had an age gap of 25 years, went public with their relationship in May 2021.

The two collaborated on Maris' 2019 single Abot Langit and sparked romance speculations two years later when the actress greeted him a happy birthday on her Instagram page with a black-and-white photo. He thanked Maris in the comment section and accompanied it with a telling "love you."

Prior to Rico, Maris dated Iñigo in 2017 before they broke up in December 2018.
