Carly Rae Jepsen reveals she wrote 'Just a Little Walk on the Moon' in the Philippines
Pinoy fans of Carly Rae Jepsen now have another reason to revisit her latest album: one of its most intimate songs was written while the pop star was in the Philippines.
In an interview with Pitchfork, Jepsen revealed that Just a Little Walk on the Moon, the final track on the Day side of her new double album Day and Night, was penned in the country with her husband and producer Cole M.G.N.
"One of my favorite memories of making this album was when I was on tour, actually, and Cole and I were in the Philippines, and there was a phase where we were reading books before bed, and we were reading some poetry as well," she shared.
The Call Me Maybe singer added that they were particularly hooked on works by American poet E.E. Cummings, who's known for i carry your heart with me.
"And out of that poetry came this song, Just A Little Walk on the Moon. And I remember writing it in the hotel in the Philippines together," she added.
"I'm really proud to say I wrote that one with my honey about my honey."
That description fits the song’s lyrics, which center on the wonder of falling in love and the intimate, almost dreamlike feeling of being completely taken by another person. The track includes imagery of balconies, moonlight, dreams, and a love that feels almost otherworldly.
The song was ultimately placed at the end of the album’s 12-track Day side, making it a quiet close to the first half.
Jepsen has visited the Philippines a couple of times to stage concerts, including the Dedicated tour in 2019. She was last in the country in 2023 as one of the headliners of Wanderland Music Festival.
During her most recent trip, she explored Intramuros and even tried Filipino dirty ice cream, adding a few local memories to her time in Manila.
Jepsen’s own teaser for the album had previously included the line “Philippines, May 24, 11:45am,” along with lyrics from Just a Little Walk on the Moon, connecting the track to the trip.
In 2023, Jepsen worked with Cole for her The Loveliest Time album, sparking romance during their collaboration. They got engaged in September 2024 and tied the knot a year later in October 2025.
Earlier in March, the couple welcomed their first child.
