K-pop girl group UNIS to disband on Sept. 26
K-pop girl group UNIS, which has Filipino members, is disbanding after two years.
In a statement, the group's agency, F&F Entertainment, announced that the group will conclude its activities on Sept. 26 following the expiration of their exclusive contracts.
"Our company and the members have continuously discussed the contract period and the direction of their future activities. After thorough discussions, we have ultimately decided to conclude UNIS' official activities as a complete group in accordance with the originally scheduled contract period," the agency said.
F&F Entertainment also expressed its gratitude to the members, "who have poured their passion and sincerity into creating countless performances and precious moments under the name UNIS."
"Although their official activities together as UNIS will come to an end, we will also sincerely support the members as they embark on new beginnings, continue pursuing their dreams in their respective paths, and grow further," the agency said.
They also thanked the fandom, EverAfter, "who have created an unforgettable, miraculous journey together with UNIS over the years."
Before its disbandment, the group dropped its last single, Milky Way, on Sept. 23.
This came after the group went on a 14-city Americas tour, as well as landing on the domestic charts with their remake song, Haneulttang Byeolttang.
The group was formed at the South Korean reality competition show Universe Ticket and officially debuted in March 2024 with a mini album, We Unis with the lead track, Superwoman. Other tracks include Butterfly’s Dream, Whatchu Need, Dopamine, and Dream of Girls.
It consists of eight members: Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee, Kotoko, Yunha, Elisia, Yoona, and Seowon.
Elisia, Gehlee, and Hyeonju are from the Philippines, while Nana and Kotoko are from Japan.
The group name was derived from the phrases “Universe is started” and “U&I story." They first visited the Philippines in May 2024 and in October of the same year for their "CURIOUSland" fan con.
