Cat Arambulo apologizes for 'insensitivity' in viral video on floods caused by monsoon, Typhoon Carina

Cat Arambulo-Antonio said sorry for her "insensitivity" in her now-deleted video on the widespread flooding that was caused by the monsoon and Typhoon Carina.

"I deeply apologize for my insensitivity and my actions, especially during a time of crisis," the socialite said in a statement posted on her Instagram page on Saturday, July 27.

"I hear you," she added, noting that she will use this as a "learning opportunity" for herself "and to teach my kids to be more socially aware and active."

Arambulo said she's now putting her focus on lending a helping hand to typhoon-affected communities.

"My prayers go out to everyone affected," she concluded.

Arambulo faced backlash for being "out of touch" and "insensitive" after posting a TikTok video of her and her kids inside a van on a flooded road earlier this week, when Typhoon Carina (international name Gaemi)—and the southwest monsoon or habagat it enhanced—brought continuous rains, strong winds, and heavy flooding in different parts of the country.

"First time for the kids to experience baha here in Manila," she said in the clip, where she's also seen asking her maid if it's "safe" to bring a floatie or "try wakeboarding" in flood waters.

The influencer took down the post later on, but it was reposted by several social media pages, including meme page P1noy Reaction.

This isn't the first time Arambulo earned the ire of social media users. In March 2020, she became the subject of backlash after calling out commuters who were left stranded outside and were apprehended at checkpoints amid the COVID-19 lockdowns. "God, why don't you motherf**kers just stay at home? Stay at home! Don't you guys get it? Tigas ng ulo!" she said in a clip she uploaded on her Instagram stories.

She later apologized for her harsh words in a statement posted on X. "Hi everyone, I would like to apologize for the harsh words I've used in my IG story at a very sensitive time like this," she wrote at the time. "It's just so frustrating to see that some people who have the option to stay at home are still not following the govt's efforts. Hope that we can all help in any way that we can—especially to our frontliners who are working to keep us safe."

"Again, I'm sorry for how it sounded like but do know I only have the best intentions—our collective safety and that this will end soon," she added.
