Camila Cabello reveals reason for second breakup with Shawn Mendes

Camila Cabello revealed why she and Shawn Mendes had to split up again after giving their relationship another shot.

In the latest episode of podcast Call Her Daddy, the singer opened up about rekindling her romance with Shawn two years after their first breakup.

“I opted for that route,” she said, referring to it as a “great” one. “It was a fun time. It was a fun moment.”

Camila, however, shared that she and Shawn had to end it after a while after having some realizations on love and life. “You’re just kind of like, it’s not a fit, it doesn’t feel right.”

“I think, luckily, I was in a place in my life where it took me less time to realize that,” she mused, adding that it was the same for Shawn.

“It took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good,’” she continued.

After two breakups with Shawn, the former Fifth Harmony member stressed that she “will always care about him and love him.”

“He’s such a good person and I’m lucky because some people have exes that are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person,” she said.

Shawn and Camila met in 2014 and teamed up for the hit song Señorita in 2019—during which romance speculations started but were only confirmed by them later that year. They broke up in 2021. 

The two sparked reconciliation rumors in 2023 after being spotted kissing and getting cozy at Coachella. They were seen on different occasions together after the event, but a source told PEOPLE that they decided to call it quits for the second time later that year.
