Fil-Brit gymnast Jake Jarman to remain with Team GB in 2028 Olympics
Fil-Brit Olympian Jake Jarman sets the record straight on the possibility of representing the Philippines in the Olympics in the future.
According to a GMA News Online report, Jarman, who earned a bronze medal in the floor finals, said that he will stick with representing Great Britain in the next Olympic cycle.
"For me, competing for the Philippines, it would be amazing, but at the moment, it's hard for me to make a decision like that," he said.
"I've got family back in the UK, but I think for me, if maybe I'm [at] the end of my career, maybe I'm still at peak performance, who knows, maybe?"
The 22-year-old continued, "I definitely would not be closing any doors but I think for the next four years, I'll still be definitely with UK."
Meanwhile, Cynthia Carrion, the president of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP), said in an interview that Jarman expressed his desire to play for the country.
"Next Olympics, he wants to play for the Philippines. So we'll seek FIG's permission. I will write a letter and we'll see if FIG says yes or no," she said.
"Ang importante may Philippine passport siya," she added.
Jarman marked his Olympic debut this year with a 14.933 finish, earning him a bronze medal. More than that, he has caught the attention of Pinoys with his "Filipino coded" charm.
Born to his Filipino mom, Ana Jarman, Jarman lived in Cebu from the time he was three to five years old. In an exclusive interview with The Philippine STAR, he previously said, "I am proud to have both Philippine and British heritage."
"I still get to talk to my family in Cebu, using Skype and they are always following my progress. I love Cebu and its great beaches, and I have very good memories of my time at school and with my cousins, Lola, and Lolo," he shared.
In one of his Instagram stories, he also shared an old photo of him in his early years, wearing a t-shirt with a print, "Jake loves Cebu."
