Miley Cyrus 'wasn't allowed' to perform 'Hannah Montana' songs after leaving Disney
Will Miley Cyrus be performing The Best of Both Worlds anytime soon?
The singer opened up about her experience after starring on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana on the Every Single Album podcast.
"After I left Disney, I wasn't allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music," the 32-year-old Flowers artist said.
"It's not like I wanted to. I mean, performing The Best of Both Worlds between We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball wouldn't have really made sense. But it was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them."
However, when Miley was inducted as a Disney Legend in August 2024, this changed.
"I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool," she said.
The former child actress starred in the Disney series from 2006 to 2011, when she was 14 as Miley Stewart, a middle school student who was secretly a pop singer, Hannah Montana. Also in the cast were her father Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Mitchel Musso, and Moises Arias.
As Hannah Montana, Miley released hit songs Nobody's Perfect, I Got Nerve, Rock Star, He Could Be the One, and I'll Always Remember You.
The Bangerz singer was honored as the youngest Disney Legend at the D23 Expo.
“A little bit of everything has changed since [landing Hannah Montana]. But at the same time, nothing has changed at all. I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana. In so many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life,'" she said during her speech.
Aside from the series, Miley embarked on her successful "Best of Both Worlds Tour" in 2007. In 2009, she reprised her role in Hannah Montana: The Movie.
