Miley Cyrus revealed that she nearly put her music career behind her because of a severe medical emergency that she went through while in the middle of a concert.

Sitting down for a talk on The Zane Lowe Interview podcast, the actress and singer bared that she had a "pretty traumatic experience" while hosting her Miley's New Year's Eve Party special on NBC back in 2023.

"I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture, which we didn't know exactly what was going on, so we did it, but it was pretty traumatic 'cause it was extremely excruciating," Miley said.

Despite this, she went on with the event that she co-hosted with her godmother and country musician Dolly Parton.

"I did the show anyway, but it was really, really hard on me," she stressed.

According to John Hopkins Medical, ovarian cysts are sacs that are usually filled with fluid in an ovary or on its surface, and while these are harmless "most of the time," the problem comes when they become "twisted" or "ruptures" like in Miley's case.

These result in serious symptoms such as pelvic pain that may come and go, a feeling of heaviness in your belly, and bloating.

Most ovarian cysts cannot be prevented, but you can get an early diagnosis if you have one through regular pelvic exams.

Miley's experience with her ovarian cyst eventually left her with second thoughts about continuing her music career, but a conversation with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels several months later made her rethink her decision to quit.

"I had dinner with Lorne and he said something that now has stuck with me. He goes, 'Six months—everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild,'" Miley recalled.

"He's like, 'You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music. Everyone does this, everyone has these traumatic experiences,'" she continued.

Miley isn't the only celebrity who has faced challenges due to ovarian cysts. Hailey Bieber recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with two ovarian cysts. This comes less than a year after she gave birth to her son Jack Blues with her husband Justin Bieber.
